Please Do Not Steal Papers!

by cindy on May 16, 2011

I just got this email from reader Larry and wanted to share it with everyone.

“Me and wife are very thankful for websites like yours to help save BIG money at the store. I am a carrier for Dayton Daily News and I have a single copy route (stores and coin operated boxes). I am excited to see people are definitely picking up on the coupon craze as my volume of papers has stayed steady and/or risen in the past 6 months. The one downside I am seeing a lot lately is that more and more of my coin operated boxes are getting pillaged for extra papers. Alot of people probably aren’t aware that the carrier takes the hit on all paper theft (we are independent contractors working off sales). At $1.40 a paper on Sundays that is a killer> I have been averaging $50-65 / week in paper theft.

I was wondering if you could possibly do a public service announcement about this subject sometime. At some point this will affect people because the carriers have to lower draws and/or eliminate locations to cut back on our losses. There are numerous places people can get good paper buys. Many dollar stores in our area as well as Discount Drug Mart offer the Sunday paper for $1. Some carriers including myself have special boxes we call comic boxes where we sell leftover Sunday papers for .50 (although sadly people abuse this system also) . I just wanted to pass this along and if you need anything answered coming from a person who deals with newspapers on a regular basis feel free to contact me.”

(Thanks, Larry!)

*Also make sure you ask your neighbors for there unwanted coupons before you take them from there drive way. If you missed “How Not To Obtain Extra Coupons” Video you can watch it here. It is funny to watch but sadly some people really do this.
