This question comes from reader Rachelle. She had originally posted this question in my Meijer ad deals post but I thought it was a great question and deserved some attention. Many new couponer’s have the exact same question.
Instead of me answering her question I thought it would be fun to ask you the readers to answer her by leaving a comment and sharing some of your thoughts on the subject.
“I am new to couponing (6 months), and it seems I am always going back to correct mistakes on my receipt (especially Meijer Meal Box coupons not scanning), etc. Today I did the B3G3 Reese’s, and it showed 6@.$74 and then “free item $.19″ “free item $.74. How long did it take you guys to get “good” at this and make fewer mistakes? ” Rachelle

Regarding the Meijer Mealbox coupons…mine rarely scan and have to be keyed in. Every cashier is different but if they won't scan and they key in the UPC code on the coupon, a thing I've learned is to watch the total on the screen to see if it decreases…if it doesn't then you're able to catch it right then rather than having to go to guest services to get it fixed. They don't come off like all of the other coupons…they come off under the item. Some cashiers won't take the time to key in the UPC code and key it in as a generic vendor coupon.
Definitely watch those Meijer mealbox coupons!! I just caught two yesterday that didn't scan but I didn't catch them till I got home. Shelly is right; they usually have to key them in and some cashiers don't like to take the time to do it. One weird thing I ran into this week—I was using a $2 catalina (from the Kraft Kool-aid deal) to pay for something small and the total was $2.05 which should have made it $0.05 after the catalina—but when the cashier scanned the catalina the total went up to $0.09. Doesn't make sense, does it? Another thing with Meijer is you should give them the coupons one by one instead of the entire stack or they'll probably miss a few.
